Gifts for the Kids – Clothing & Life Skills Shopping Experience

👕 More Than Clothing… This Is Dignity, Confidence & Preparation for Life

Right now, many of our children and teens in Uganda are wearing clothing that is worn thin, outgrown, or no longer adequate for daily life.

These kids live actively—walking long distances, playing, studying, and helping with daily responsibilities. Their clothing is used hard and washed frequently, often by hand. Even with great care, it simply doesn’t last.

Clothing is not a luxury—it is a basic need.
And right now, it’s one we need your help to meet.

 

🛍️ A Powerful Experience That Changes More Than Their Wardrobe

Instead of shipping clothing from the U.S. (which now comes with heavy import taxes and limitations), we’ve discovered something even more impactful:

✨ Taking the kids shopping themselves.

We were able to do this in 2023 and 2024—and it was incredible.

For many of the children, it was their first time ever choosing their own clothes.

But this is about so much more than shopping…

 

This is a hands-on life skills experience that teaches:

• How to manage a budget

• How to prioritize needs vs. wants

• How to compare prices and make wise choices

• How to barter and negotiate—a critical everyday skill in Uganda

• How to shop with confidence and independence

 

They go in small groups with guidance from our team, learning how to stretch every dollar and make thoughtful decisions.

And the joy? It’s unforgettable.
Confidence grows. Smiles shine. Dignity is restored.

 

🌍 Why We Shop Locally

In the past, we brought 8–15 totes of donated items—but this is becoming increasingly difficult and costly due to:

• Import taxes on donated goods

• Strict revenue authority regulations

• High transportation costs (up to $200 per tote + taxes)

 

The reality is:

👉 That same money goes MUCH further in Uganda
👉 It supports local businesses and the community
👉 It allows the children to choose what they truly need

This approach is not only more effective—it’s more empowering.

 

❤️ The Need

We are believing to provide approximately $75 per child, adjusted based on age and need (older teens require more).

This allows each child to purchase essentials such as:

• Durable shoes

• Shirts, dresses, or tops

• Jeans or shorts

• Undergarments

• A few key outfits to restore their wardrobe

Total Need: $6,500
